Detailed Green Plans
Detailed plans are prepared by hand for all features of the golf course before being transferred into the CAD system.
Prev: Approach
Good layout is at the heart of this approach. If it is wrong, no amount of landscaping,
or publicity will put it right. The trained golf course architect sets himself exacting
standards, derived from years of observation and practice. He will persevere until
the plan fits perfectly - an individual golf course inspired by the site, not an
academic solution imposed upon the site, guided by passing fashion. The intrinsic
interest of a good layout is vital, whether the budget be high or low, whether it
be for a new 18 hole
course or for the incorporation of new land into an existing golf course. A painstaking
approach to layout will frequently save money, preserve the existing character of
the site, and ensure the contentment of a wide variety of golfer.
Once a layout has been established, the same care and effort continue with the preparation
of the detailed design of the golf course, directed towards the site, the enhancement
of natural features, the strategy and fairness of play, the detailed elements of
the course, and the
broader fields of landscaping and maintenance.
Great importance is attached to attractive featuring but never to the point of becoming
mannered or monumental. Whether the setting be links, parkland or more savage heathland
a concern always remains for the future greenkeeper and the machinery at his disposal;
so the everyday tasks in managing, maintaining and refining courses for today’s
needs are well understood.
