Cork under the magnifier

14 Apr 2009

Cork Golf Club is a spectacular Mackenzie designed golf course; many of the holes constructed in an old limestone quarry adjacent to Cork Estuary. Hawtree have recently been commissioned to carry out a detailed report on the golf course concentrating on the bunkering. The club wishes to maintain the integrity of the original Mackenzie style of bunkering and to ensure the locations and condition of the bunkers are correct. The landscaping of the course will also be addressed - once completely treeless; the spectacular views once dominating the course are now being blocked by the maturing of trees.

Cobh nearing completion

02 Feb 2009

Construction commenced on the new 18-hole facility for Cobh Golf Club at Marino near Fota during February 2008. Despite a particularly wet summer all construction works and seeding was completed before the end of September the same year. The course is now growing in nicely and is on target for opening in Early Summer 2009. The layout, design and construction has been a resounding success and the golf holes blend neatly into the landscape. One of many memorable holes is the 10th, a stunning downhill Par 3 with an island green and views across the Inner Cork Harbour.
